The Child Health CARE for KIDS Program can help children and families who are enrolled in Medicaid. The focus of the program is to assure that eligible children birth to 21 years of age receive preventive health care services, including oral health care. Iowa’s Early and Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) health maintenance recommendations provide the guidelines for care.

CARE for KIDS helps children and families access preventive health care by offering these services:

  • Provide education to all newly eligible Medicaid clients about how their healthcare coverage will provide for both preventive and ill healthcare
  • Help families with finding a doctor or dentist for their medical and dental care
  • Help families with housing, food, energy assistance, parenting programs, and referrals to community resources and services
  • Reminders when your child needs routine medical and dental check-ups
  • Provide health education and support on a variety of topics
  • Contact families to provide care coordination
  • Arrange transportation to Medicaid approved appointments
  • Provide translation for services
  • Provide presumptive eligibility (determination that allows children likely to be Medicaid eligible to receive Medicaid while a formal eligibility determination is being made through Department of Human Services)
